Trans anal surgery, also known as TAMIS (Trans Anal Minimally Invasive Surgery), TEO (Transanal Endoscopic Operation) or TEMS (Transanal Endoscopic Micro Surgery) is a method of removing rectal polyps or early rectal cancers by key hole surgery which is performed through anal route, without requiring an abdominal incision.
The special gel port used for this technique allows lesions in the rectum to be removed by using key hole instruments. It is a highly specialised technique which Mr Gupta can offer for selective patients if suitable for such treatment. Recovery is quick and often a diagnostic colonoscopy and an MRI scan is needed prior to surgery.
